Budget and After-School All-Stars Work to Give Kids a Break

Budget travelers are saving money while supporting After-School All-Stars (ASAS), an organization that provides comprehensive out-of-school programs to keep children safe and give them a chance at a brighter future.

“As a brand that has long served families, Budget is proud to join forces with After-School All-Stars to provide after-school activities for families in need,” said Scott Deaver, executive vice president of marketing for Avis Budget Car Rental, LLC, parent of Budget. “We hope to raise awareness for this worthy organization and assist them in helping middle school kids across the country.”

“We’re so happy to have the support of Budget Rent A Car,” said Frank Donaghue, president and CEO of After-School All-Stars. “We hope that this extra incentive will spur more people to get involved in expanding after-school programming nationwide.”

After-School All-Stars engages middle-school children in activities and ongoing relationships that increase confidence and encourage success. After-School All-Stars programs combine sports and recreation, educational programs, technology training, arts and culture, and life skills and service learning. After-School All-Stars currently has programs in 15 U.S. cities. For more information on After-School All-Stars, visit AfterSchoolAllStars.org or call 310-275-3232.

Budget Supports the Tom Joyner Foundation and Historical Black Colleges and Universities

As part of its continued support, Budget donated $10,000 to the Tom Joyner Foundation to help students pursue their education at Historical Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Budget raised money for the Foundation, formed by the nationally syndicated radio personality, by offering morning show listeners a discount on weekly and weekend rates. For every completed rental made in connection with the discount, Budget donated $1 U.S. to the Foundation.

“Tom Joyner’s listener base responded very well to the Budget promotion,” stated Scott Deaver, executive vice president of marketing for Avis Budget Group, LLC, parent of Budget. “We value their loyalty and are proud to present the Tom Joyner Foundation with a check for $10,000.”

Tom Joyner, whose nationally syndicated radio show is aired in 115 markets reaching nearly 8 million listeners, said, “Thanks to Budget, we’re keeping kids in school. The Foundation and the many students are grateful for the donation.”

Since 1998, the Foundation has raised more than $30 million and helped some 80 colleges and thousands of deserving students who attend HBCUs. Since its inception, the foundation has assisted every HBCU, which is defined as “any historically black college or university that was established prior to 1964, whose principal mission was, and is, the education of black Americans.”

Mothers Against Drunk Driving

Budget continues to support important community service initiatives locally as well as nationally. These activities include support of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD. Recently, Budget featured a “MADD promotion” on larger-sized vehicles—mini vans, SUVs, luxury and premium vehicles. Customers saved up to 10% on weekly rentals, and five percent on daily and weekend rentals. Budget also donated $1 to MADD from each of these rentals.
